"The Science of Getting Rich"

In 1910, Wallace D. Wattles wrote the success classic “The Science of Getting Rich”.  This book--now in the public domain--is essential reading for anyone who wants to become wealthy.  It served as inspiration for the hit film, "The Secret".  If you would like to read "The Science of Getting Rich", you can get the book for free by clicking here: The Science of Getting Rich for Practical Geniuses.

On this website you will find a series of 12 articles that were written based on the teachings found in "The Science of Getting Rich".  We hope you find them helpful in your quest for riches.  The 12 articles and their synopsis are as follows:

Being Rich is Your Birthright

  • The right to life means the right to live life to its fullest.
  • In order to live life to its fullest, you need to own things, and you need money to purchase these things.
  • Therefore, the right to life means the right to have money, or the right to be rich.

Getting Rich is an Exact Science

  • In the second chapter of "The Science of Getting Rich", Mr. Wattles explains that getting rich is an exact science, like mathematics.
  • Therefore, if you apply the principles and universal laws taught in his book, you will achieve the same success as others who have also applied them, regardless of who you are.
  • Just as 2 + 2 = 4, if you do things in "a certain way"--which is explained in the book--you will achieve wealth.

  • In the third chapter of "The Science of Getting Rich", Mr. Wattles explains that everything that exists is made up of a "formless substance".
  • This formless substance is inexhaustible.
  • Therefore, the supply of raw material to create anything you could possibly wish for will never run out, and there is more than enough for all.
  • Abandon all thoughts of scarcity and instead focus on thoughts of abundance.

  • As explained in a previous chapter, everything that exists is made up of a "formless substance" which is inexhaustible.
  • In this chapter Mr. Wattles goes on to say that you can impress your thoughts into this formless substance.
  • Everything that is was first a thought, which caused original susbtance to take the form of that thought.

Get Rid of the Thought of Competition

  • In the fifth chapter of "The Science of Getting Rich", Mr. Wattles explains that in order to do things in "a certain way" you should get what you want by creating it, not by taking it away from someone else.
  • When you understand that there is more than enough for all, you rise out of competitive thought.

 The Scientific Formula for Getting Rich

  • The scientific formula for getting rich consists of the following:

1. You must know what you want and form a clear and specific image of it;

2. You must remain focused on what you want and think about it often;

3. You must have strong desire for the things you wish to create;

4. You must have the intent to manifest what you’re thinking about;

5. You must have faith that what you’re asking for will be given to you; and

6. You must claim what you’re asking for as already being yours.

Gratitude Brings You Into Harmony with the Universe

  • In order to communicate successfully with the original substance, you must come into harmony with it.
  • Mr. Wattles points out in the seventh chapter of his book that the way in which to establish a harmonious relationship with the thinking substance is through a feeling of deep and profound gratitude.

Use Your Will to Focus on What You Want

  • In chapters 9 and 10 of "The Science of Getting Rich", Mr. Wattles explains that the purpose of your will is to keep yourself thinking and acting in “a certain way”.
  • When your mind deviates from focusing on what you want, you should use your will power to bring it back.
  • The role of your will in getting rich is to compel yourself to think and do those things that will keep you on the course to riches.

You Must Act Now

  • In chapter 11 of "The Science of Getting Rich" Mr. Wattles explains that it is not enough to think in "a certain way".
  • In order to get rich, you must also act in "a certain way".  And you must begin to act right now.

Efficient Action

  • In chapter 12 of "The Science of Getting Rich" Mr. Wattles explains that when you act, you must do so efficiently.
  • Acting efficiently means that you hold the vision of what you want steadily in your mind and you take only that action that moves you closer toward your vision.
  • If you don’t do any inefficient acts-that is, if you don’t act out of doubt or fear--, and if you do a sufficient number of efficient acts-by concentrating on the vision of what you want with faith and purpose--, you will become rich.

The Right Business for You

  • In chapter 13 of "The Science of Getting Rich" Mr. Wattles explains that you will be happiest if you get rich by doing what you want to do.
  • Therefore, the first step in deciding what business to get into is to think about what you enjoy doing.

Add to the Life of the World

  • Mr. Wattles explains in "The Science of Getting Rich" that in order to become rich you must add to the life of the world and offer value to others.
  • In addition, you need to develop a "wealth mentality" and do everything with the firm conviction that you're on your way to becoming rich.
